Meet Eleanor Young

10/24/25 | By: Eleanor “Ellie” Young

Hey everyone! My name is Eleanor Young, but most people just call me Ellie. I am an LGPC working with clients in Washington, DC. I am also in the process of applying for my Maryland license. I am so excited to join the Monarch team and get back to working with Eating Disorders which is one of my passions as a clinician.

I am originally from Southern California and grew up in a mid-sized suburb about halfway between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. I lived in the same house my entire life until I moved away for college. I could not wait to get out of California and experience something new! Unfortunately, I didn’t realize how lucky I was until I left the sunshine behind and traded it in for 9 months of gloomy weather and near constant rain in Washington state.

I lived in Washington state for 6 years and, as much as I missed the California weather, the PNW summers are hard to beat! I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Western Washington University in March 2020 (literally the week that the COVID-19 pandemic hit!). In 2021, I moved from Washington (state) to Washington (DC) to attend graduate school at The George Washington University. In 2024, after three years of working and going to school, I earned my Master’s degree from GW’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program!

Since August 2024, I have worked  for a Community-Based Organization that partners with the Department of Behavioral Health to put therapists in schools. As a School-Based Mental Health Therapist at a PK-8th school, I work alongside the school’s wellness team to provide low-barrier access to mental health care for children and their families. I love my job and am excited to be starting another academic year.

As a graduate student, I interned at The Renfrew Center of Bethesda, MD which specializes in treating Eating Disorders at the PHP and IOP level. As an intern, I engaged clients in various types of therapy including, individual, group, family, and even some couples therapy. I learned so much in my time working at Renfrew but, most of all, I walked away with a new-found passion. While I love my job as a School-Based Mental Health Therapist, I have found myself missing the work that I did during my time at Renfrew. This is what brought me to Monarch! I am here because I am passionate about working with clients who are struggling with their relationships with food and supporting them through the complex challenges that compound those struggles.

As a therapist, I am very conversational and want all my clients to feel like they are able to take an active role in guiding our time together. I believe that all each of us really needs is a space to be seen, heard, and accepted for who we truly are. One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my authenticity. I strive to be the most genuine version of myself in all spaces, whether that is supporting my clients or spending time with my friends outside of work.

Cultural competence and trauma-informed care are essential to my work as a therapist. Each client has unique needs that require an individualized approach. I think one of the most important aspects of trauma work is reclaiming your power and taking back control of your own life. It is my hope that, through our work together, my clients feel supported and empowered to advocate for themselves. Additionally, I am very passionate about incorporating the principles of Health at Every Size(HAES) into my work with clients.

I have spent a lot of time over the past few years fighting burnout and finding hobbies that bring me joy. Outside of work, I enjoy cooking and baking, reading, and rewatching my favorite shows. I also love hosting dinner parties (which combines two of my favorite past times… cooking and spending time with friends!). Being from California, I also enjoy spending time outside in the sun whether it’s listening to an audiobook on walks or reading in the park.
