Introducing Our New Clinical Intern: Stephanie Wilkes
May 2, 2025 | By Stephanie Wilkes
Hi there! I'm Stephanie Wilkes and I'm training to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I'm currently completing my degree at Northwestern University while based in DC, where I'm thrilled to be doing my clinical training with the amazing Monarch team in Maryland.
I was born in DC and grew up in Montgomery County and I always knew I wanted to end up back in this area. My educational background includes an undergraduate degree from Connecticut College and an MBA from UNC, Chapel Hill.
I chose Northwestern specifically because of its Integrative Systemic Therapy (IST) framework. What really drew me to IST was its focus on understanding people within their whole context, seeing how relationships, family dynamics, and community connections all contribute to an individual’s wellbeing. This approach lets me combine a variety of therapeutic techniques to meet your specific needs.
When we work together, I'll help you explore how different elements of your life interact and influence each other, rather than viewing challenges in isolation. This helps us find sustainable solutions that honor your individual experiences and strengths.
I believe there are numerous lenses that help me work through problems with clients, not just my IST training. I'm focused on offering culturally informed therapy and I'm committed to staying mindful about how my experiences, or experiences that I haven't had might impact how I show up in the therapy session.
Even though I may not have had the same experiences as you, I believe in true collaboration. We'll approach problems as a team and I always acknowledge that the person who knows you best is yourself.
In my free time I love exploring art, attending stand-up comedy shows, going for walks on local trails, and spending time with family and friends (and their dogs!). I think DC is a majorly underrated city, so I'm all about squeezing every drop out of living here!
